MAR 545 - Biological Oceanography

3 hour lecture, 3 hour laboratory
Prerequisite: BIO 316 or equivalent, or permission of instructor Instruction, demonstration and exercises in population modeling, as applied to fishery resources. First principles of population dynamics are reviewed from the perspective of model building, and several dimensions of complexity are explored. A wide range of conventional stock assessment methods are introduced, as well as several advanced topics such as multispecies assessments, ecosystem considerations, spatial structure and risk analysis.
