Art History Minor

Return to Colleges, Departments, and Programs Return to: Colleges, Departments, and Programs

Students in all fields, especially those in other humanities programs or in art and design, are encouraged to enhance their academic credentials with a Minor in Art History. They will find that it complements their majors and enriches their understanding of contemporary and historical cultures.

A minor must be completed at the time of the degree and will be so noted on the student’s transcript.  A student cannot be readmitted to the University to complete only a minor.

Admission to the Minor

Students with at least 54 University credits, a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0, and a 2.5 grade point average in their majors may request admission to the Art History Minor. Permission may be granted by the Chairperson provided such request is made in writing at any time before graduation. Forms are available from the Registrar and the department.

Requirements

  • At least 21 credit hours in Art History (designated by the prefix ARH or approved by the department); 12 credits must be above the 100-level and three credits must be at the 400-level or in a course meeting seminar requirements that has been approved for this purpose by the department.
  • Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA in all Art History courses.
