The UMass Dartmouth certificate in Portuguese Language and Cultures is a 12-credit undergraduate program for students interested in developing and strengthening their communication skills in Portuguese, as well as their understanding of related cultures. A strong foundation in the Portuguese language and Lusophone cultures prepares students to pursue further coursework in Portuguese and related areas. It also prepares students to take advantage of opportunities in fields such as international relations, business, translation and interpretation, teaching, government, and many more.

Portuguese Required Courses

POR 102 - Elementary Portuguese II Credits: 3
POR 201 - Intermediate Portuguese I Credits: 3
POR 202 - Intermediate Portuguese II Credits: 3
POR 301 - Portuguese Composition and Conversation I Credits: 3
Any other 200- or 300-level POR courses, as well as POR 120, may be used as substitute if a candidate places into POR 201, 202, or 301; no more than two courses taught in English shall count for the certificate.
