FIA 244 - Introduction to Painting/Mixed Media

Introductory painting with emphasis on the mastery of fundamental skills through the exploration of mixed-media applications. Students explore the use of various materials such as collage, digital and traditional prints as collage materials, and working with colored pencils and acrylic over various grounds. All explorations are done using an abstract visual language that promotes a sound understanding of compositional elements and structures. The goal of the course is to enable students, majors and non-majors, to use the information and skills gained in this course in their major field of study. Sound studio practice as well as proper use of materials is discussed. Faculty present mixed-media applications and the artists using this method of working.
