FIA 245 - Introduction to Painting/Abstraction

Prerequisites: FOU 110, 112

Introductory course in painting with emphasis on the mastery of fundamental skills of color and composition as they pertain to abstract work. Students explore basic color theory, color mixing, and its application in understanding and creating space using paint and collage materials. Through the exploration of abstract concepts, students explore the 2-dimensional picture plane, and compositional structures. The goal of the course is to enable students, majors, and non-majors to use the information and skills gained in their major field of study. Sound studio practice as well as proper use of materials is discussed. Faculty discuss the history of abstraction and its importance in 20th century art.
