Recent innovative developments in financial markets and related institutions have revolutionized the field and practice of finance for the corporate financial manager as well as the entrepreneur. These developments have transformed major financial sectors of the national economy into players in the international economy. In response to globalization, the financial manager must consider a wide choice of financial derivatives that permit the management of current and future risk. There are also new and complex alternatives for raising funds in capital markets ranging from putable and convertible bonds to various forms of hybrid, preferred, and common stock. In addition, portfolio managers have the opportunity and obligation to use modern sophisticated models to achieve the investment goals set by their clients. In response to the need for specialized education for professionals with significant responsibilities in financial management, the Department of Accounting and Finance offers a Post-Masters Certificate in Financial Management. The focus of the course of study is to provide managers with the skills necessary to deal with key financial issues that include risk management, portfolio selection, capital budgeting, and raising funds in the capital market within the context of a network of global financial institutions.
