Painting Minor

Qualified students may complete a minor in painting within the Art and Design Department. The minor consists of 18 credits. To declare a minor, students must meet university requirements and be approved by the both Art and Design Department and the department of their major. Students must maintain a grade point average of 2.0 in all minor classes. A review of progress in the painting minor occurs during sophomore and/or junior reviews.

The student selects 12-15 credits from the first menu of studio courses (200, 300 level) listed below and then chooses one (1) or two (2) upper-level 400-level courses in painting.

A minor must be completed at the time of the degree and will be so noted on the student’s transcript. A student cannot be readmitted to the University to complete only a minor.

200/300-Level Requirements

Take at least 12 credits from the following list:

(200-level courses below may be taken in any order)

AXD 241 - Painting: Color, Form and Space Credits: 3
AXD 242 - Painting: Life Painting Credits: 3
AXD 243 - Painting: Mixed Media Credits: 3
AXD 244 - Painting: Idea, Image, Process Credits: 3
Before taking any 300-level painting, student must meet the prerequisite by taking any two of the following courses: AXD 241, 242, 243, 244, 245, 246
AXD 341 - Painting: Thematic Development I Credits: variable; 3.00 to 6.00
AXD 342 - Painting: Thematic Development II Credits: 3
Prerequisite AXD 341

Upper-level Requirements

Take at least 3 credits from the following list:

(Passing the Junior Review will be necessary before enrolling in a 400-level painting course.)

AXD 441 - Senior Painting Studio Credits: variable; 3.00 to 6.00
AXD 442 - Senior Painting Project Credits: variable; 3.00 to 6.00

Additional Requirements

Take an additional 3 credits from any of the 200, 300 or 400-level courses listed above.
