English Major: Writing, Rhetoric & Communication Option

BA Degree

Writing, Rhetoric & Communication candidates must demonstrate their ability to analyze rhetorical problems while composing effective, well-formulated documents for specified audiences and to create documents using appropriate computer software.

Requirements


Students must earn a C- or better for courses to count toward the English major degree.  English majors are encouraged to take some of their electives in additional English courses.

Foundation


Nine (9) credits required.

Writing Core


Take at least seven (7) Professional Writing courses, five (5) of which must be at the 300 -400 level, including at least one computer-intensive writing course, one theory course and one capstone workshop.  Twenty-one (21) credits total:

Theory


Three (3) credits required.

Capstone Writing Workshop


Three (3) credits required.  Workshops require senior standing and prerequisites ENL 257, 258 and 260, or permission.

Literature Electives


Six (6) credits required at the 300 - 400 level.

Total Credits: 36
