Legal Studies

The Legal Studies Minor consists of 18 credits (6 courses) of which 9 credits (3 courses) must be at the upper division (300-400) level. 

Required Course (3 Credits)


Elective Courses (15 credits)


Students must complete 5 elective courses (15 credits).

At least 3 courses (9 credits) must be 300 level or higher.

At least one course must be taken from each of the following categories.

Identify and understand key concepts and terminology relevant to the law


Understanding legal terminology and concepts is the first step toward understanding law.  Courses in this category introduce students to terminology and concepts that are relevant to understanding the law, legal institutions, and legal issues.

Demonstrate analytical and critical thinking skills appropriate to the study of the law, its institutions, and legal issues


Critically thinking about law leads to a deeper understanding of law. Courses in this category provide the tools for critically examining law, its institutions, and legal issues.

Analyze the law, its institutions, and legal problems from an interdisciplinary perspective, such as their social, economic, and theoretical influences and impacts


Many factors influence law, and law influences many facets of society.  Courses in this category explore law, its institutions, and legal issues from an interdisciplinary perspective, such as their historical, social, economic, and theoretical influences and impacts.
