Integrative Biology PhD

Successful completion of the Integrative Biology Ph.D. degree requires:

1. Completion of the required course work

• BIO 511 Professional Communication (3 credits) 

• 2 credits of BIO 525 (Graduate Student Seminar) 

• BIO 530 Biological Statistics (4 credits) 

• One course from Molecular & Cellular Biology offerings (3 or 4 credits) 

• One course from Organismal & Developmental Biology offerings (3 or 4 credits) 

• One course from Evolution & Ecology offerings (3 or 4 credits) 

• One course in a cross-disciplinary topic from outside of the Biology department (3 or 4 credits) 

2. Completion of 34 credits of doctoral research (BIO 699)

3. Formation of a dissertation committee 

3. After completion of course work, students must pass a written qualifying exam in their field of research 

4. Oral defense of a research proposal 

5. Approval of a written research proposal by all members of the dissertation committee 

6. Oral defense of an original dissertation and approval of the dissertation by all members of the dissertation committee
