CJS 364 - The Death Penalty Credits 3 Lecture Requirements: Prerequisite: Junior or Senior standing An examination of the historic, moral, philosophical, legal, and socio-cultural framing of arguments for and against the death penalty in the U.S. This course considers how race, class, nation, and gender shape understandings of the death penalty to study the consequences for both victims’ and offenders’ families, wrongful convictions, alternative models for restoring justice, and international standards overseeing state-sanctioned death.
