Human Resources Management Major

BS degree

Human resources professionals ensure organizational success through acquisition and development of a productive and thriving workforce.  The program in human resources management (HRM) prepares students to recruit, train and develop employees and implement programs and processes to retain a skilled and knowledgeable workforce. Human Resources helps create a supportive and inclusive working environment through the development of compensation and benefits packages, incentive programs and health and safety initiatives.

The HRM program helps students build the knowledge and skills to successfully manage the people related practices within organizations. The knowledge acquired in areas such as finance, accounting, marketing, management and operations, supplements the HRM program by providing students with the range of business skills and knowledge necessary to work within or run a successful business and thrive in the modern workplace.

Student Learning Outcomes

 

Graduates will be capable of using research-informed theories, frameworks and techniques to help organizations build talented work forces who are engaged with the organization’s goals. To this aim, the program will teach fundamentals from research and practice in HRM to students, enabling them to productively participate in the analysis, design and implementation of programs and policies to

 

  • recruit prospective employees with the right skill sets and organizational fit
  • develop employee skills in the short, mid and long run, guided by organizational and employee needs
  • ensure that the organization delivers fair remuneration and benefits to employees
  • help management conduct negotiations with organized labor
  • provide management with basic legal perspective and guidelines to identify the need for professional legal aid in bargaining or organizational matters
  • help management identify areas within the organization that could potentially benefit from organizational change at different levels

Freshman Year


Thirty (30) credits required.

  • Non-Business Elective  6 credits
  • University Studies Requirements 12 credits

Sophomore Year


Thirty (30) credits required.

  • University Studies Requirement 3 credits
  • Non-Business Elective  3 credits       (Can be any course taken outside CCB)

Junior Year


 Thirty (30) credits required.

  • Business Elective  3 credits      (Any 300-400 level business course)
  • Non-Business Elective  3 credits      (Can be any course taken outside CCB)

Senior Year


 Thirty (30) credits required.

  • Business Elective  3 credits      (Any 300-400 level business course)
  • Management Elective 3 credits (Any 300-400 level management course)
