BIO 304 - Science and Politics of Molecular Biologythree credits This course examines the studies that led to the identification of DNA as the genetic material of cells and the discovery of the enzymes that allow DNA manipulation for genetic engineering and fingerprinting, as well as the studies that have identified stem cells as pleuripotent entities that can develop into a myriad of cell types. Included are discussions regarding the ethical issues that have arisen from these studies and attempts to control this line of research through the political process.
