POR 217 - Introduction to Portuguese American Literature3 credits C, G Study of literary texts and films from the major population centers of Portuguese-American culture (New England, New York / New Jersey, California, and Hawaii), with readings, lectures, and discussions in English. The course will also consider Portuguese-American culture within a borader context of other Lusophone communities in the US (particularly Brazilian and Cape Verdean). Oral and written assignments will focus on Portuguese-American cultural traditions and emphasize skills both in intercultural communication and in original and critical thinking. Course constitutes an elective for Portuguese undergraduate minors and majors. It also fulfills CAS Humanities distribution requirements and satisfies two General Education requirements (Cultural and Artistic Literacy and Global Awareness). ENL 200
