ARH 331 - Social Practice and Social Action: A Global Art History

Lecture
A historical and historiographic exploration of artistic social engagement across diverse state, culture, and legislative circumstances, over the last half century. Beyond the contemporary and largely Western discourse of artistic Social Practice, tracking themes of “interaction” and “participation” as values unto themselves, students will research specific geopolitically/contextually-hedged art practices that threaten to defy-or expand-the developing canonical rubric.
