Admission Requirements
The requirements for admission to the accelerated Dual Degree Initial License and MAT Program are as follows:
- Students must have a minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA.
- Students can apply to the Dual Degree program through the Graduate Admissions Office as juniors and begin taking the required graduate courses once they have completed 75 undergraduate credits.
- Dual Degree students can apply up to 15 graduate credits taken as an undergraduate to their MAT Initial degree.
- Students are encouraged to take the relevant MTELs before earning their BA/BS degree.

Choose five from the following: Teaching Practicum
All students seeking an Initial teaching license must pass the MTELs and interview with the Director of Teacher Licensure in order to student teach. Additionally, students must apply to the Graduate Office before their Practicum/Practicum Equivalent (student teaching). All MTEL scores must be submitted along with their application. Please plan ahead in order to complete the tests and have test scores processed before the interview deadline with the Director of Teacher Licensure.
Interview Deadlines
The deadlines for interview with the Director of Teacher Licensure for the Teaching Practicum or Practicum Equivalent are March 1st for the fall semester and October 1st for the spring semester. Notes
There may be revisions to the program requirements to reflect on-going developments in State regulations and educational reform.
This program is aligned with the appropriate Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
MAT 613 is needed for the MAT in Elementary Education but is not required for Initial licensure.
