French Major

Students majoring French will complete 30 credits in their major field: three (3) foundational courses, four (4) or more core electives, and three (3) general electives from an approved list. If a student wishes to take more than four (4) core electives, these can replace general electives. To qualify for language courses at the 300-level, a student must have completed 202 in that language, or have been placed into the 300-level through the placement test. A G.P.A of 2.0 in the major is necessary for graduation.

Foundational Courses : 301, 331 and a Capstone course

Core Electives: 300 and 400-level FRN classes and list of approved courses General Electives: 201, 202, 204, 302, 332

Note: For the Master of Arts in Teaching program, appropriate 400-level Foreign Language and Literature courses may be offered at the 500 level.

Global Languages and Cultures Honors Program


Senior majors in the Global Languages and Cultures Department who have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 can choose to do honors work. The student must take a three or six-credit independent study on a specific topic. This course will have an extensive reading list, and the student must present a substantial term paper which will be evaluated by a faculty committee. The term paper must earn at least a grade of A-.
