The Legal Studies Minor consists of 18 credits (6 courses) of which 9 credits (3 courses) must be at the upper division (300-400) level.
Students in the minor will achieve the following learning outcomes:
- Identify and understand key concepts and terminology relevant to the law
- Demonstrate analytical and critical thinking skills appropriate to the study of the law, its institutions, and legal issues
- Analyze the law, its institutions, and legal problems from an interdisciplinary perspective, such as their social, economic, and theoretical influences and impacts

Required Course (6 Credits)
Elective Courses (12 credits)
Students must complete 4 elective courses (12 credits). At least 3 courses (9 credits) must be 300 level or higher. At least one course must be taken from each of the following categories. Identify and understand key concepts and terminology relevant to the law
Understanding legal terminology and concepts is the first step toward understanding law. Courses in this category introduce students to terminology and concepts that are relevant to understanding the law, legal institutions, and legal issues. Demonstrate analytical and critical thinking skills appropriate to the study of the law, its institutions, and legal issues
Critically thinking about law leads to a deeper understanding of law. Courses in this category provide the tools for critically examining law, its institutions, and legal issues. Analyze the law, its institutions, and legal problems from an interdisciplinary perspective, such as their social, economic, and theoretical influences and impacts
Many factors influence law, and law influences many facets of society. Courses in this category explore law, its institutions, and legal issues from an interdisciplinary perspective, such as their historical, social, economic, and theoretical influences and impacts. Legal Studies Electives
The following Legal Studies course is a variable topics course and can be used to satisfy any of the three content areas. Students may use LEG 300 with different content not more than twice for the minor. Additional Elective Options
The following courses are variable topics courses. When the topic of the course applies to the law it may be used to satisfy requirements for the Legal Studies Minor. Students must obtain the program director’s prior approval to use one of these courses to satisfy a minor requirement. |
