FLL 250 - Language and the Mind

3 credits C, W
Prerequisites: ENL 102
Examination of language and the relationships among language, thought, and culture by focusing on various human-interest aspects of linguistics. Topics include language of propaganda and politics, language of advertising, language and sexism, euphemisms, jargon, and double-talk, taboos, doctorese, legalese, bilingualism, social judgments and standard versus non-standard English.
