PHL 304 - Philosophy of Mind3 credits Prerequisites: Semester course in Philosophy, or permission of instructor An advanced study of the nature of the mind, and of the relationship between the mind and the brain. If the mind is something distinct from the brain, how is it able to cause bodily movement? Topics include various theories of the mental: dualism, materialism, functionalism, and behaviorism. Also examined are problems of mental causation, cognitive content, intentionality, and explanatory reduction.
