PHL 360 - Objectivity, Historicity, and Interpretation

3 credits
Prerequisites: Semester course in Philosophy, or permission of instructor
Examination of the recurring themes of objectivity, realism, truth, relativism, and the interpretive nature of human inquiry. The course critically evaluates some implicit assumptions functioning in the philosophical endeavor from its inception. Attention is paid to philosophers who have, in some sense or other, attempted to overcome their respective traditions. Readings include work by Rorty, Davidson, Quine, Putnam, Gadamer, Derrida, Nietzsche, and Heidegger.
