MTE 531 - Finding Patterns & Making Use of Structure in MathematicsCredits 3 Lecture / 3 hours per week Supports the development of a rich and coherent understanding of two key elements of mathematical reasoning: looking for and making use of structures and looking for and expressing regularity in repeated reasoning. Students will learn to identify problems in which structure or patterns can be used to generalize mathematics and simplify calculation. Students will examine some of the important structures in mathematics such as properties of numbers and shapes. They will also consider problem-solving strategies and questioning approaches that will promote their students’ attention to these underlying constructs. Graded
