This faculty’s range of specialization is enhanced by Lecturers who specialize in many other fields.
The Department of Art Education, Art History, and Media Studies offers two major programs of study; one leading to a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education, the other a Bachelor of Art in Art History. The Department also offers a minors in Art History and Film and Media Studies.
UMass Dartmouth’s Art Education Program provides a sequence of theoretical, practical, and studio-based experiences leading to proficiency in the teaching of art. For more information please link to the program page.
The Art History Program introduces students to a wide array of art objects and explores ways of understanding them. Art history students learn how to treat non-verbal objects as evidence, how to use scholarly publications, and how to explain their findings and insights. The goal is to develop advanced critical thinking skills and to prepare for entry into a range of academic and professional occupations. For more information please link to the program page.
