Any degree candidate who has earned at least 24 credits, with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.500 may request admission to a minor in Civil and Environmental Engineering. The minor is intended for students in other majors, who have an interest in Civil and Environmental Engineering and will provide students a unique opportunity to obtain a multidisciplinary engineering background along with a core foundation in basic sciences and engineering principles. Upon completion of the minor, the student will have the knowledge to work in the Civil and Environmental Engineering fields in a variety of capacities.
The completion of the minor requires a minimum of 18 total credits that consist of 9 credits of required core courses, and 9 credits of elective courses as well as a 2.000 GPA in the courses required for the minor. The minor is flexible in the elective courses to allow students to take courses within their area of interest (e.g. structural, environmental, water resources, transportation, or geotechnical engineering). Students should be aware that some of the courses may require additional prerequisites.
A minor must be completed at the time of the degree and will be so noted on the student’s transcript. A student cannot be readmitted to the University to complete only a minor.
The Program Objectives are:
1. Students will understand the fundamental principles in civil and environmental engineering.
2. Students will develop engineering approaches and problem solving skills in civil and environmental engineering.
3. Students will develop advanced knowledge in a specific area including structural engineering, environmental & water resources, geotechnical engineering, transportation, and coastal engineering.
