ANT 367 - Culture, Power, and Inequality in a Globalized World3 credits Prerequisites: SOC 101 or ANT 111 or SOC/ANT 113; Sophomore, Junior, or Senior standing An exploration of anthropological approaches to globalization, and what globalization means for the future of anthropology. We start with definitions of and theories about globalization, touch upon “the globalization debates,” and then turn to case studies of key issues such as gender and sexuality, migration and diaspora, the globalization of culture, the power of commodities, and political activism. Throughout, we will pay close attention to questions of power and inequality - seeing how the impact of globalization is shaped by race, nationality, class, gender and other vectors of difference.
